Good Centrifuge Practice

  1. Always run with a full set of buckets.
  2. Distribute load evenly around the rotor.
  3. Balance opposing buckets to within 10 grams.
  4. Prevent corrosion. Dry buckets and rotor after cleaning.
  5. Ensure rotors, bucket lids and windshields are securely fitted.
  6. Remove any broken tubes or debris from bowl.
  7. Refrigerated units: Leave lid open after use to allow moisture to evaporate and prevent corrosion.

Most importantly, centrifuges need to be regularly maintained, and serviced. As with a car, a single annual service can extend the centrifuge’s life expectancy considerably, and increase the machine’s reliability, and safety. Centrifuges are potentially dangerous and can cause harm if operated incorrectly, or by inexperienced users, or if not maintained.

Henderson Biomedical offers a service whereby a trained engineer can attend your site and give basic training on the operation of any centrifuge. Just contact us to find out more about this service.
